Runner Supporting Links School Sport Partnership

Nicola Squires is supporting the running community within Links School Sport Partnership by raising money by running around the Peak District from 7:18am until sunset on Friday December 21st 2018!  Her aim is to complete between 40-50 miles within this time.

Nicola recalls one of Links School Sport Partnership’s School Sport Coordinators, Craig Malkin stating that “Had it not been for my Year 5 teacher Mr Malkin… I may never have become a runner, I will be forever grateful for the opportunity he gave me as a 9 year old to take running up.”

Craig provided Nicola with the opportunity to set up a after school running club, which Nicola described as follows: “These children made my week, they started out not wanting to come but over the weeks the numbers grew and they would race each other to meet me in the park, seeing how running had changed this group of children was amazing. I have great inspiration from this group of school children and want to see this happening more, sport is an incredible thing, which can have a snowball effect and change lives. “

Nicola consequently decided to complete the run in the Peak District, and raise funds to help fund the running community within Links School Sport Partnership.  The aim is for funds to be utilised to buy children who attend the running club, sports kit (a school logo branded sports top), funding to attend an external coaching camp, and possibly support a fun run for children across Sheffield if enough money is raised.  The overall cost per child to include the kit, coaching and fun run entry is £50.  It is Nicola’s aim to give 10 children the opportunity to run and experience something which may change their way of life for the future!
