AMRC Business Award Nomination

Here at Links we are incredibly happy to announce we have been shortlisted for The AMRC with Boeing Skills and Development Award at the Sheffiled Business Awards.  It is always a great privilege to be nominated for awards to highlight the work we do with both our staff and the community.

The reason Links have been nominated for the AMRC Business Award is

[blockquote align=”center”]Due to our exceptional workforce development programmes and policies. Links have an outstanding focus on employee skills and development.[/blockquote]

To help us deliver our aim of school pupils achieving a minimum of 2 hours high quality PE and School Sport it is important we help to develop a strong and effective workforce to deliver this message.  To achieve this peoples skills are developed in 2 key areas:

1. Developing Primary school teachers to foster high quality PE lessons.

2. Capacity building – Developing a sustainable workforce to offer schools qualified specialists for PE support and after school clubs.

Using this approach helps to ensure that teachers are not deskilled by placing sports coaches in school, but actually gain skills within P.E.  It still allows for sports specialists to deliver alongside the high quality P.E in schools, allowing school pupils to receive more high quality sport and not less.

We at Links  believe that our most important resource is our people as we rely on people with specific skills to work in our externally facing roles such as sport specific coaching, teaching P.E, behaviour management, customer service and marketing as well as IT and PR.  This helps Links to grow as a company so recruitment in these areas is essential.

Using the links we have with National Governing bodies and Sheffield Hallam University it has allowed us to deliver training to both teachers and students to help develop and deliver effective programmes that can further aid the quantity of high quality P.E school pupils receive.  An example of one programme that was born from this was Ready, Steady, Coach.  This helps 100 1st year University students develop their own coaching skills by giving them 8 hours training in skills such as behaviour management and FUNdamental movement skills which they then deliver over 6 hours in local schools.  This has led to the development of further programmes such as Ready, Steady, Dance and Ready, Steady, Swim.  This has helped deliver over 600 hours of coaching in schools as well as developing numerous jobs for local volunteers.

These are some of the key reasons Links SSP have been shortlisted for this award and this is something we are extremely proud of.  Keep watching the website for updates on this as the award ceremony takes place on the 1st February 2013.
