Rounding out a successful second week, the Sheffield Hallam placement students here at Links School Sports Partnership were given the task of hosting a sport-specific event for the Year 3 students at Gleadless Primary School, consisting of bench-ball and field athletics. The day started with a light warm-up to get the blood flowing and hearts pumping, which was followed by a brief introduction from the coaches about the sport of bench-ball.

Each of the 24 students present were divided into 4 teams of 6 and assigned one of two courts within the sport hall and, after a light demonstration, the 4 teams eagerly began participating and putting their newly learned knowledge into action. The pupils of Gleadless Primary immediately grasped the sport, by seamlessly integrating their skills in basketball and netball to ensure they could participate in bench-ball at a high standard from the very start.

Excitement sky rocketed after the first few games, as the teams developed their understanding of the rules. This enabled the students of Gleadless Primary to not only enjoy participation in the sport of bench-ball, but also to thrive under the competitive aspects the sport has to offer.

The session continued its hectic proceedings until the school bell rang, signalling the end of the lesson. Upon conclusion of the session, the students returned to their class with a clearer idea of the sport of bench-ball, how it is played, and what health benefits it can offer.

We’d like to thank the students of Gleadless primary for their effort and participation throughout the day. We hop you enjoyed it as much as we did!
