Lasting Legacy

With the Olympics now finished the focus has now turned into providing a lasting legacy from the games.  This was one of the key messages pushed by Lord Coe as to why London should have the games originally and it is now time for the legacy to begin.

As many of the athletes collected their medals and conducted their post race interviews many were quick to thank their coaches and support staff.  This shows that to even elite level athletes coaching is an integral part of improving performance.  With many athletes being involved in sport for many years they will have encountered numerous coaches who have helped shape and develop their sporting ability.  When connected with the LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) model it is essential to see that the coaching must begin at a young age to help young atheletes reach their full potential and maximise their time in key phases of development.

Sports Coach UK have put up a recent post explaining how coaching will be a significant part of helping deliver a lasting legacy for future athletes.  This article can be found HERE.

LINKS SSP will be working towards developing this lasting legacy and hope to keep the spirit of the Olympic Games alive for everyone.  We hope the games have been an inspiration for both you and your children and that we can hopefully find numerous futur Olympic athletes!
